About Paper:

individuals and their care partners more definitive information about the presence of amyloid plaques. While this knowledge can aid in planning, little is known about how it may alter interpersonal dynamics within the caregiving dyad. To explore the dyadic experience of caregiving relationships following an amyloid scan, we analyzed semi-structured interview data from 29 dyads who received an amyloid PET scan as part of an Alzheimer's Disease diagnosis. We analyzed the data using thematic analysis. We identified three themes: making accommodations to promote the person with dementia's independence, preparing for the future, and the decision to involve others. Dyads described making everyday adjustments to support the person with dementia's autonomy while preserving their relationship. They navigated future planning by balancing health concerns, respecting one another's values, and negotiating agreement around long-term decisions. Dyads also reflected on how to involve others, including drawing on family and community support, making financial and legal arrangements, and disclosing the diagnosis. These findings suggest dyads may benefit from interventions that help them process the PET scan results and diagnosis together.
