About Paper:

Exploring Body Image Pressure and Eating Disorders in Higher Education: University of Oregon's 2025 The University of Oregon (UO) participates in the Healthy Minds Study (HMS), administered by the University of Michigan. UO has participated in the 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023, and 2025 HMS, a survey-based assessment of mental wellness and service use among college students. Since its initial launch in 2007, UO began administering the study biannually in 2017. In 2025, 786 students participated in the survey, and an analysis of HMS data was conducted. UHS partnered with the Health Equity Action Group of the Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) to conduct additional analyses regarding students who have indicated risk for an eating disorder and exhibit disordered eating behaviors. A qualitative review of UO data suggests the need for improved support of students experiencing or at risk of eating disorders. UO students reported higher levels of risk for eating disorders and greater prevalence of disordered eating behaviors compared to national averages. Additionally, since the 2017 HMS, data indicates an increasing number of students reporting behaviors associated with eating disorder risk. The Health Equity Action Group of the Student Health Advisory Committee recommends UO implement changes to increase access to and availability of physical and mental wellbeing resources to support the success of UO's student population affected by disordered eating. 111 UNIVERSITY OF OREGON • 2026 UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM TABLE OF CONTENTS
