This study analyzes how biases established in psychology have contributed to the perception and treatment of intergenerational transference of trauma within Black communities. Utilizing historical secondary sources, this study argues that African Americans don't innately have a stigma against mental health, but Western Psychology has validated a stigma against Black people. Employing liberation psychology, this study investigates how alternative approaches that prioritize collective healing and community-based interventions have provided solutions to address trauma effectively, which traditional Western psychology has lacked. This study emphasizes the necessity of decolonized, culturally competent mental health initiatives that acknowledge systemic influences on trauma. Combining historical analysis and contemporary conversations, this research challenges presiding psychological narratives and speaks for Black Centered approaches to trauma and healing. About Paper:

Removing all neoplastic tissue is essential to prevent local recurrence following oncologic surgeries. Yet, there is currently no in vivo technology that exists in companion animals that can distinguish cancer and normal tissue in real time to guide the extent of resection.  In humans, Panitumumab (a human monoclonal antibody against epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR) which is ubiquitously overexpressed in oral squamous cell carcinoma) bound to IRDye800 is effective for intraoperative fluorescence guidance for head and neck cancers. We hypothesize that overexpression of EGFR and Panitumumab binding will be seen in canine oral cancers, allowing for future work testing the clinical efficacy of Panitumumab-IRDye 800 for intraoperative surgical guidance. We will evaluate EGFR expression by performing immunohistochemistry on samples from the most common canine oral tumors, including squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), malignant melanoma (MM), canine acanthamatous ameloblastoma (CAA), and Fibrosarcoma (FSA). Evaluation of Panitumumab IRDye-800 successfully binding to EGFR+ canine cell lines (confirmed by western blot analysis) will be confirmed using the LICOR Odyssey M imager to detect fluorescent emission. Thus far, all SCC and CAA are EGFR positive. This work further establishes using human monoclonal antibodies in canine cancers and gives preliminary data needed for testing in vivo.
